Q: Is it safe to consume nutreince while pregnant or nursing?
A: Not only is it safe to take nutreince during pregnancy and nursing, but during these vital times your micronutrient needs are increased. We have included 400 mcg of 5-MTHF, the most biologically active form of folate, the amount that is typically recommended for pregnancy and nutreince is easy to drink, great tasting and doesn’t cause stomach upset like many multivitamins. (We remind you to consult your health care provider before choosing any prenatal vitamin.)
Q: Is nutreince safe for Diabetics?
A: Yes, nutreince is safe for diabetics. We have added 35 mcg of chromium and 2000 IU of vitamin D to support healthy blood sugar levels and sweetened nutreince’s flavor varieties with all natural stevia rather than sugar. Your physician may wish to adjust the dosage of your blood thinners. It is also important to let your physician know if you stop taking nutreince.
Q: Should nutreince be taken with food?
A: While nutreince can be taken any time, we recommend that it is taken at least 20 – 30 minutes before or after a meal to reduce the chances of the micronutrients in nutreince competing for absorption with the micronutrients in your food. Additionally nutreince should be mixed/taken with water or sparkling water for this same reason rather than juice or milk.
Q: What is the serving size?
A: For the powdered varieties, the recommended dose is 2 packets per day (1 AM packet & 1 PM packet), for the capsules the recommended dose is 4 AM capsules and 4 PM capsules. It is important to take both the AM and PM doses as they each hold a proprietary blend of the listed ingredients.
Q: Is nutreince suitable for menopausal woman?
A: Yes. nutreince is great for menopausal women to take. The 500 mg of calcium, 420 mg of magnesium, 120 mcg of vitamin K (K1 & K2), and the 2000 IU of vitamin D are fantastic for keeping bones healthy and strong.
Q: Why is it important that nutreince is formulated to not contain copper and iron?
Iron is a vital mineral your body needs to function normally. However, the National Institutes of Health’s Office of Dietary Supplements, has indicated that too much iron can cause serious health complications. Because of this, you may want to take an iron-free multivitamin to avoid iron overload, a medical condition that causes excess iron to be stored in vital organs such as the liver and heart. Too much iron may be toxic—and even fatal. In general, iron supplementation is not recommended for adult males and postmenopausal women. If you are a pre-menopausal woman, an athlete that works out for more than 6 hours a week, or a strict vegan/vegetarian you may want to consider iron supplementation. However, you should know that iron competes with ten (10) other micronutrients – making multivitamins formulated with iron highly susceptible to poor absorption rates. If you choose to use an iron supplement, you should take it at a separate time from your daily multivitamin.
Additionally, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) published a statement calling for the FDA to require multivitamin manufacturers to reformulate many of the most trusted multivitamins on the market without copper or iron. Neal Barnard, M.D., president of the Physicians Committee, stated in his letter to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg, M.D. “Given that nearly half of Americans develop Alzheimer’s disease by age 85, we need to urge consumers to err on the side of caution…Research on the links between metals and brain damage is ongoing. Even so, the evidence that excess iron and copper contribute to brain deterioration has reached the point where we have to take it seriously.”
Q: How do I take nutreince if I am on thyroid medication?
Because the 500 mg of calcium is in the AM packet/capsules, you must separate your thyroid medication from the time you are taking your AM dose by at least 4 hours (the longer the better). We suggest swapping your AM and PM packets/capsules and taking your PM dose in the morning with your thyroid medication and the AM dose in the afternoon. NOTE: because many people feel energized after taking CoQ10, which is in the AM packet/capsules, you may want to avoid taking the AM dose at bedtime to avoid sleep problems.
Option 1: Take your thyroid medication in the morning then take you AM nutreince 4 or more hours later, and your PM nutreince as normal.
Option 2: Swap your AM and PM doses and take your PM packet/capsules in the morning with your thyroid medication, and take your AM packet/capsules later in the afternoon. (Avoid taking it before bed)
Q: Why did the Caltons change the ingredients in nutreince?
A: The Caltons are always trying to upgrade their formulations to match the latest in supplemental science. For some ingredients that meant changing the form to use the biologically active form (to reduce the likelihood on poor absorption and utilization), for other ingredients it meant matching the latest RDI levels to meet compliance, and for some it meant utilizing new, patented forms of micronutrients proven to be more stable and better utilized by the body. You can be assured that the Caltons are striving to create the most scientifically advanced multivitamin on the market.
Q: Does the B12 in the capsule absorb? I heard that B12 is best taken as a sublingual?
A: Most multivitamins use a cheap form of B12 called cyanocobalamin – nutreince uses the most bioavailable form called methylcobalamin. We utilize this superior methylated form beacuse many individuals have a hard time in the conversion (methylation) of vitamin B12. However, some individuals do require a sublingual B12 as they might not have enough of a specific protein called intrinsic factor in their bodies. For these individuals adding a sublingual B12 to their daily supplement regimen may be beneficial. It can be taken anytime and will not compete with either nutreince packet.
Q: Why is the K2 in the PM packet now? I heard that K2 aids in directing calcium to the bone instead of the arteries.
A: K2 is required to direct the calcium out of the arteries and into the bone. However, it must be in the body for this to occur. They aren’t required to be ingested at the same time for this to occur. Additionally, the latest research indicates that K2 is highly competitive with vitamin D. We have placed the vitamin K in the PM formula (with the D in the am formula) to guarantee the greatest absorption rate for these fat-soluble nutrients.
Q: How is the vitamin K broken down in nutreince?
A: We include 40 mcg of each of the 3 forms of vitamin K (K1, K2 MK-4, K2 MK-7 as K2 Vital Delta). While vitamin K1 is essential for blood clotting, only vitamin K2 can direct the calcium into the bones. Vitamin K2 (MK-4) only stays active in the body for 6 hours. While the MK-7 lasts far longer. We utilize a patented form of MK-7 because scientific studies have proven that if traditional MK-7 products are combined in the same product as calcium or magnesium, the MK-7 degrades—Not supplying you with the amount of K2 MK-7 on the label claims. This is why we go the extra mile and use patented K2 Vital Delta in nutreince.
Q: Why does nutreince now contain more Zeaxanthin?
A: The increase in Zeaxanthin is to safeguard your eyes from the increased exposure to blue light from electronics. Both lutein and Zeaxanthin act as powerful antioxidants that protect your eyes against cataracts, Age-related Macular Degeneration, and damage from blue light exposure.
Q: Glucosamine is a new ingredient, why? Is it from shellfish?
A: Glucosamine is a natural compound found in cartilage — the tough tissue that cushions joints. Glucosamine has been shown to provide pain relief for people with osteoarthritis. Our glucosamine is animal and shellfish free.
Q: Is the citric acid and malic acid added just for the flavor? Is this citric acid from a GMO source?
A: All of our ingredients are non-GMO, the acids are used to make the juicy fruit flavors pop with freshness.
Q: Why has xylitol been added to nutreince?
A: Xylitol is a very healthy natural sweetener. It is great for oral health (it kills unhealthy bacteria in the mouth), and it is being researched for its’ ability to fight osteoporosis (It increases both calcium absorption and collagen production). The Citrus/Tropical, Natural, and capsules are all still free of xylitol, so individuals can chose their preferences.
Q: Has the RDI changed? Some of the quantities appear different than I am used to seeing?
A: You may also notice we have adjusted the quantities of several of the individual micronutrients. This is because the FDA updated the RDIs (Reference Daily Intakes) and is requiring everyone to comply.
On both food and supplement labels the RDIs are used to determine to what extent a food or supplement delivers the amount of each essential nutrient considered to be sufficient to meet the minimum requirements for 97-98% of healthy individuals over the age of 4 years old. On May 27th 2016 the FDA updated the RDIs and mandated that all companies change their labels to become compliant by July 28th 2018. Because nutreince is manufactured here in the USA, in an FDA regulated facility, we started the compliance procedure immediately, but on September 29th of last year (2017) they extended their deadline to January 1st 2020 for large companies and January 1st 2021 for small companies. So you may not see some of these changes for a while depending on what brands you purchase. The bottom line is, we used this mandated change as an opportunity to improve our formula by adjusting our quantities and improving our forms. Click here to see the changes that were made by the FDA.
